How to Keep Your CENTRAL Vacuum Cleaner Clean

If you already own a built-in vacuum, also known as a central vacuuming system, congratulations! You have made a very wise choice. One of the reasons many people buy them is because of how long they last. Built-in vacuum cleaners can last up to 20 years before they need to be replaced!  However, yours will not achieve this lifespan on its own. Just like with your car, regular maintenance, meaning cleaning, is a must with these units. Cleaning will keep them running trouble-free and efficiently each time they are used and will ensure your unit last as long as you want it to. In order to do this, you will need a cleaning cloth and cleaning solution of your choice.

Step 1: Empty the canister or change the vacuum bag during every cleaning process. If you have not done it yet, do it now.

Step 2: Attach the hose in reverse, directly to the central canister. This will clean out any dirt or clogs in the hose.

Step 3: Next, attach the hose to each receptacle and, while running, place your hand over the opening in the hose. Allow the pressure to build up over a few seconds, then remove your hand. The added pressure when you release your hand will suck down any stubborn dirt or clogs within the tubing. Do this at each receptacle in your home.

Step 4: Feed a cleaning cloth into the hose when it is running. These are specially made for your central vacuum cleaning system and available from Think Vacuum. Allow the cloth to be sucked through the hose and the tubing. Retrieve it inside the central canister and repeat this process at every receptacle.

Step 5: Mix up a bucket with soapy dishwater solution. Dip any reusable filters in the bucket, being sure to swish them around and rinse thoroughly. Allow the reusable filter to dry before reinserting it back into the vacuum. If you do not have a reusable filter, replace the dirty one with a new one.
