Central Vacuum Filter Types

Most central vacuum filters are disposable but, some are permanent and others are even washable. Continue reading the vacuum filter reviews to determine the benefits of owning one filter as opposed to another.

Disposable Filters - The best option for indoor air cleanliness and lung health. For best performance, extremely low maintenance, these central vacuum filters should be replaced 2 to 3 times a year. Replacing your filter or cartridge and central vacuum bag ever so often is like changing the filter in your air conditioner! Changing your central vacuum filter greatly improves airflow and velocity which is a key ingredient to have continuous, 100% suction of your vacuum.

Washable Filters - These filters require minimal maintenance. When properly maintained, a washable central vacuum canister or filter may last up to 2 or 3 years. Although not as good as disposable filters, a washable filter combined with a good central vacuum bag, when cleaned often will keep suction power and airflow of your system at optimum levels.

Permanent Filters - Sold as just that but, in actuality, they eventually clog over prolonged use and require higher maintenance to uphold adequate suction and eventually limit airflow. Although a permanent central vacuum filter (similar to cyclonic or central vacuum bagless units) may last your system a lifetime, vacuum experts recommend changing them every 5 to 7 years. A big drawback to permanent filters and bagless systems is the growth of mold, mildew, and foul odors.

Simply put, using a bag and filter or cartridge in your central vacuum will provide outstanding filtration, maintain high-efficiency suction and improve indoor air quality. Filtered units with bags are especially great for houses that are not set up to be vented outside. We at ThinkVacuums.com believe the cost of proper central vacuum cartridges and central vacuum bags are just a small price to pay to secure your health and the prolonged life of your central vacuum motor and system.
